OGDEN — Every year Catholic Community Services of Utah offers the Dream Builder’s Breakfast to honor those who join with the organization to fight hunger in the Ogden area. It is the only fundraising event for CCS Northern Utah.This year's honorees are Utah Food Bank, Citibank, Easter Seals, and Barbara Kelley and Dreama Vicars. At the breakfast, attendees can also learn about CCS’ mission, the people they serve, and how anybody can be part of a success story.
“The Dream Builders Breakfast is more than a community event, it’s a powerful opportunity to see real impact in action,” said Randy Chappell, director of basic needs at CCS. He added that attendees will hear stories of lives changed through access to food, shelter and support “while connecting with others who care about strengthening the community.”
Those being honored have each contributed to CCS’ mission. For example, Utah Food Bank provided CCS’ Joyce Hansen Hall Food Bank with 449,276 pounds of food last fiscal year, and so far this year the amount donated is 431,446 pounds, Chappell said.
“They are very responsive to the needs of the community, reaching out to us before we reach out to them with our needs,” Chappell said. “The work they do with the food drives and the promotional things they do help make our food drives successful.”
Joyce Hansen Hall Food Bank, the largest food pantry in northern Utah, serves hundreds of households every month, according to the CCS website. 
Citibank has helped “with nearly all of our big events in the past few years, from Bridging the Gap to Stamping Out Hunger,” Chappell said. “They help restock our pantry and are willing to help in any way we ask.”
CCS’ Bridging the Gap program provides a bag of groceries to elementary school children from low-income families on Fridays to help tide them over on the weekend. Stamping Out Hunger is a nationwide food drive by the National Association of Letter Carriers that collects food donations on the second Saturday of May each year. CCS benefits from this food drive. 
Easterseals-Goodwill Northern Rocky Mountain Inc. is a non-profit organization that provides “employment and job training, retail stores and operations, community integration and housing for adults with intellectual disabilities, children’s therapy, and health-related programs for adults and seniors,” according to its website.
“This is great program in helping older adults get back into the workforce,” Chappell said. “Our Easter Seals [workers] help with cleaning, stocking, and other duties around the building. We also have a front desk receptionist through Easter Seals.” 
CCS personnel have come to love the program “because it not only meets our needs but also teaches skills to people who might not get the chance later in their lives,” Chappell said.
The 2026 Dream Builder's Breakfast will be held on Monday, May 18 at the Ogden Eccles Conference Center, 2415 Washington Blvd., Ogden. Check in will begin at 7:30 a.m., with breakfast and programming beginning at 8 a.m. RSVP by May 8 to https://www.ccsutah.org/dream-builders-rsvp.
Inviting all to attend this year’s event, Chappell said attending is a way to turn awareness into action. “By bringing people together around a shared purpose, it generates the support and partnerships needed to help individuals and families move toward stability and self-sufficiency.”
