The Office of the Diaconate provides ongoing education, preparation, and guidance to men who served the Church as deacons. Formation takes place before ordination and afterward, and throughout a deacon's years of ministry. Local programs ensure that permanent deacons are ready and able to provide a thorough ministry of service in the particular circumstances in this Diocese.

About Us - Permanent Deacons
Permanent deacons are men called to serve God and the Church through prayer, preaching, sacramental ministry, and works of charity. In the Diocese of Salt Lake City, they support parish life, care for those in need, and bring their faith and life experience into every aspect of ministry.
Our formation program equips men for this lifelong vocation, helping them grow spiritually, theologically, and pastorally so they can serve their communities with dedication and compassion.

A Jubilee of ServiceJoin us as we commemorate five decades of diaconal ministry, honoring the first class of Permanent Deacons whose dedication, humility, and service helped shape the life of the Church.
This golden anniversary invites us to reflect with gratitude on the past, celebrate the present, and look with hope toward the future of the diaconate.

Prayer Requests for the Sick
LET US ALWAYS REMEMBER IN PRAYER THOSE ENTRUSTED TO OUR CARE. The Diocese of Salt Lake City, through the Diaconate and the broader community, is committed to praying for those who have asked for our support. As people of faith, we have dedicated our lives to prayer, and it is our sacred duty to hold in prayer all those who have entrusted their intention.We offer our prayers for all the deceased, especially for those listed in the Diocese's Book of Memorials. May rest in peace, embraced by the love of our Heavenly Father.
We also lift up those in our community who are sick, suffering, struggling with addiction, facing unemployment, or enduring any of life's many Challenges. Let us also remember all those who feel alienated, isolated, or burdened in any way. We pray for all those known to us and our wider community who are in need of healing, strength, and comfort.
Let us continue to offer our heartfelt prayers for their healing, peace and strength.
Let us pray to the Lord.
