The Vicar General assists the bishop in coordinating the pastoral governance and ministries of the Diocese of Salt Lake City, works closely with the bishop, other members of the diocesan administration and other offices and ministries in the fulfillment of the pastoral goals and objectives of the diocese.
He assists the bishop in the mission of evangelization in the diocese, and in overseeing the administrative and legal affairs of the diocese. The Vicar General also works with the College of Consultors in assisting the diocesan bishop with the temporal administration of the diocese, and with the College of Deans in coordinating common pastoral activity among the parishes of the diocese. This includes managing personnel, diocesan policies, finances, and property. The Vicar General acts as the managing agent for all diocesan companies and entities. In particular, the Vicar General acts as manager of the past, present and future entities established under the Diocese of Salt Lake City and the Roman Catholic Bishop of Salt Lake City.
The Vicar General serves as an episcopal delegate and represents the bishop in various matters. He serves as an ex-officio member of several diocesan boards, organizations, and other entities, and attends regular meetings. He also presides over meetings, handles inquiries, communications, and makes decisions on the bishop’s behalf.
