Rita Dolores Hofmeister
March 7, 1934 ~ March 19, 2026 
Rita Hofmeister, born in Chicago, Illinois, was raised in a close-knit Catholic family surrounded by her siblings and extended relatives. She often fondly recalled her childhood, especially the joyful moments spent playing piano with her sister Maryann and brother Joe, and the many stories of “growing up with Granner,” her lovingly remembered – if occasionally cranky – grandmother.
Rita graduated from Notre Dame High School, where she began to discover her lifelong love of cooking and fine food while working at a local bakery. Her passion for baking became one of her many gifts to those around her, most famously through her beloved pie crust, which became a staple at family gatherings for years.
From a young age, Rita also developed a love of ice skating. Her talent led her to perform in professional showcases, and she later passed that joy on to her children and her granddaughter Alex.
Rita worked as a bookkeeper, a role she truly enjoyed, before dedicating herself fully to raising her five children: Katherine, Samantha, Mitchell, Carol and Alfie. Alongside her devotion to family, she embraced many hobbies, including knitting, gardening, sewing, tennis and traveling.
In her later years, Rita transformed her passion for knitting into several successful businesses. Her beautiful handiwork lives on in the many cherished pieces worn by family, friends and customers alike. Through this work, she built lasting friendships across the country, including with dear friends Terri and Wyatt, who remained among her greatest supporters.
For more than 20 years, Rita was a devoted volunteer at the Cache County Food Bank and Meals on Wheels, where she served alongside neighbors Laura, Kinnie and Sierra. Within her Catholic parish community, she was affectionately known as the “Purple Angel” – a constant, caring presence who was always ready to lend a helping hand.
Rita’s life was defined by her generosity, creativity, and deep love for her family and community. She leaves behind a legacy of kindness, warmth, and devotion that will continue to live on in all who knew her.  Arrangements entrusted to Starks Funeral Parlor.
