Mientras el pueblo de Venezuela trabaja para estabilizar sus vidas tras los dos fuertes terremotos de la semana pasada, los católicos de Utah ofrecen oraciones y recolectan donaciones para ayudar.
Fr. Pires, who since 2020 has served as pastor of Saint Henry Parish in Brigham City and its associated mission, Santa Ana in Tremonton, was ordained to the priesthood Dec. 8, 1984 in Tobaráo, Brazil. He will retire on Aug. 1.
Pope Leo XIV’s prayer intention for July is for respect for human life: “Let us pray for the respect and protection of human life in all its stages, recognizing it as a gift from God.”
The Carmel of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, 5714 Holladay Blvd., Salt Lake City, will celebrate the Solemnity of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel on Thursday, July 16, beginning with recitation of the rosary at 7 p.m. Mass will follow at 7:30 p.m., after which will be enrollment in the brown scapulars. All are invited.

The Ulster Project – Utah brings Protestant and Catholic teenagers from the town of Omagh in Northern Ireland to the Beehive State, where they spend nearly four weeks working together on many community service projects.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday, July 6, 2026 at 1 p.m. at Saint John the Baptist Catholic Church, 300 East 11800 South, Draper. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service.
